Baluku Samuel, our founder, started doing community forestry work in 2022, and over the years he observed a pattern: rural smallholder farmers struggled to grow trees on their smallholder plots. Understanding the challenges farmers faced, he began developing a solution through incentivized agroforestry, prioritizing farmer livelihoods alongside tree planting. In 2024, he applied for the Bevisioneers Fellowship, and fortunately, he was accepted into this fellowship, which supports young people with planet-positive ideas to realize their contributions in making the world a better place. In 2025, Roots and Canopy agroforestry was formed with the support of mentors and venture coaches from the fellowship.

Roots and Canopy Agroforestry is a social enterprise that grows high quality indiginious tree seedlings that are used to support landscape restoration, and as a social enterprise, we focus on reinvesting our profits to achieve sustainability and expand our reach. Our highest priority is ensuring our business can continue serving customers for years to come, maximizing the positive impact for households who use our products
